Speech School Guild Gala

On November 17 at The Atlanta History Center, this year’s Gala will commemorate a very special milestone: the golden 50th anniversary of the Speech School Guild. For a half-century, the Guild has served as the volunteer and fundraising arm of the Atlanta Speech School, recently recognized by the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative as a leading example of educational programming, thanks to the school’s focus on “eradicating illiteracy and educational inequality” for our “most vulnerable children.” One hundred percent of the proceeds for the Gala support the School’s need-based financial aid program. During the 2018-19 academic year, the Speech School awarded $1.3 million in financial aid in keeping with founder Kitty Hamm’s belief that financial circumstances should never prevent a child from receiving educational services that could profoundly impact their lives. In its 81 year history, The Speech School has never turned away a child due to financial limitations and the annual Gala helps maintain that legacy. The 2019 Language & Literacy Gala Co-Chairs are Emily Hertz, Stephanie Johnson and Hillary Shaw. Tickets and sponsorship opportunities at or 770.490.9558.
