Northside Helps You Quit
As part of Northside Hospital Cancer Institute’s comprehensive approach to promoting healthier lifestyles, Northside offers a six-week Built To Quit program to help you stop smoking and using other tobacco products. Built To Quit smoking and tobacco cessation classes are led by American Lung Association certified facilitators. The program educates participants about the hazards of smoking and using tobacco products, the benefits of quitting, and the strategies and skills to cope with urges. Behavioral therapists, nutritionists and respiratory therapists provide support and guidance. Participants receive nicotine replacement therapy (if qualified) and a hard copy curriculum with a meditation CD. Classes are conducted primarily in a group setting, with face-to-face interaction that allows participants to learn from each other’s experiences. Afternoon classes are available at all three Northside Hospital campuses in Atlanta, Canton and Cumming, with evening classes also available in Atlanta and Cumming. Lunch or dinner is provided. Ison Springs Grant
Ison Springs Elementary School (ISES) STEAM lab teacher Allison Tripp won a $5,000 grant from Krystal to go towards her work in the lab with students. ISES is one of 31 schools to receive the grant. They will use the grant for robotics, engineering lots and hydroponic set-ups. The grant is open to all Metro Atlanta schools.

You can help local children in need this summer through the Community Assistance Center (CAC)! Provide children with free summer lunches and prepare them for the upcoming school year with a new backpack and school supplies. Just $40 provides a child with lunches for 3 weeks or a backpack filled with school supplies. The Community Assistance Center (CAC) brings together the Sandy Springs and Dunwoody communities to provide compassionate assistance to neighbors in need by providing financial support, helping to meet basic needs and promoting self-reliance. CAC works to prevent homelessness and hunger locally with the support of 28 congregations of all faiths, public and private grants, civic organizations, schools, businesses and individuals. The Dunwoody Police Department announces the retirement of Deputy Chief David Sides and the promotion of many of their team members. After 39 years of dedicated service at both the Marietta Police Department and then with the Dunwoody Police Department, Deputy Chief David Sides retired in April. Deputy Chief Sides was an instrumental member of the Dunwoody Police Department upon its formation in 2009 and has worked tirelessly in service of our great community. “I am proud of the job David has done and thank him for his service to the citizens of the city of Dunwoody,” says DPD Chief Billy Grogan. “I can honestly say that Deputy Chief David Sides made my job easier and more enjoyable these last 10 years. He will be missed.” With the retirement of Deputy Chief’s Sides, numerous staff members have been promoted. Major David Barnes is promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief. Lieutenant Michael Carlson is promoted to the rank of Major and will be responsible for Administrative Service and the Criminal Investigations Division.
