Art in Dunwoody

This event celebrates local artists at Dunwoody Fine Art Month in October. Thirty artists will showcase original paintings, drawings, collages, mixed media and photography at local businesses. The public is invited to a reception at Berkshire Hathaway Homes Services at 5481 Chamblee, Dunwoody Road, Dunwoody, on Friday, October 5 from 5:30-7 p.m. The reception will feature refreshments provided by Novo Cocina Restaurant and wine.  For more information call 678.925.0811.  DFAA work will also be featured at the Donaldson-Bannister Farm at the corner of Chamblee-Dunwoody and Vermack Roads during the Annual Home Tour on October 3.

Reynolds Lake Oconee and Oconee Performing Arts Society are pleased to present The 2nd Annual Rhythm & Brews Festival at The Sandy Creek Barn on October 20. Fogler Supports Purple Heart Day

 In honor of Purple Heart Day, Atlanta event planning firm WM Events sponsored a hole at the inaugural Purple Heart Day Memorial Golf Tournament hosted by the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 465. For his support, WM Events Principal William Fogler was honored with a Special Recognition Award. “My father was a veteran, so It was important to me to offer my support for veterans on this year’s Purple Heart Day,” says Fogler. “When local organizations hold events that honor members of our community who served, I am happy to be part of that effort.” The golf tournament was held in honor of the late State Department of Veterans Services Commissioner Pete Wheeler, who served in that capacity for 66 years. Proceeds from this year’s event will enable continued assistance to needy veterans and support of local first responders. The day’s events culminated with Atlanta City Hall being lighted in purple

Wesleyan School Grows

Wesleyan School opened the school year with 1,177 students, the largest K-12 student body in the school’s history. “The responsibility of educating and developing the mind, body, and spirit of children is our calling, and we are excited to welcome the largest student body in our history this fall,” says Chris Cleveland, Wesleyan Head of School. This year, a bus route was added to Buckhead. Applications for the 2019-2020 school year are available this month.

Northside’s Prostate Screening

Northside Hospital Cancer Institute is offering a community screening to determine men’s risk for developing prostate cancer 5:30-8 p.m., October 11. Eligibility: men, ages 45-75; no prior diagnosis of prostate cancer; no prostate exam within the past year. Screenings are administered by health care professionals and consist of a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test. A nurse navigator will be available to help arrange follow-up care, if indicated. Interpretation services also will be available free of charge during the screening. Pre-registration is required. Men may call 404-531-4444 to schedule an appointment.
