East Cobb’s own realtor, Egypt Sherrod, host of HGTV’s “Flipping Virgins,” “Property Virgins” and “Urban Oasis,” recently put her touch on a Sandy Springs home where owners wanted to enjoy a return on investment and design a renovation that would offer an attractive and bright living space.
Sherrod routinely recommends upgrades that can pay off both in enjoyment and enhancing home value. Smart! These include renovating the kitchen, opening rooms into larger, lighter spaces and increasing the amount of usable space by reclaiming underutilized areas.
Sherrod tackled all three of these smart upgrades recently when she transformed a 1960s brick ranch home in Sandy Springs for first-time investors on her TV show, “Flipping Virgins.” The homeowners asked Sherrod to give the house a “top to bottom” renovation that would appeal to potential buyers, while staying within the homeowners’ budget.
“We expanded the square footage by finishing off the lower level and creating a game room and movie room. We also opened up the walls to allow more natural light to flood what was once a very dark home. The kitchen was gutted and rehabbed with custom cabinetry and designer stonework,” says Sherrod.
Sherrod and the investors chose a South Beach/Miami inspiration, which is reflected in the home’s pale floors and pastel color palate. A special touch is the “Rachel Pink” front door. “This is a popular color right now in South Beach and you see touches of it throughout the home, including in the bathroom tile work,” says Sherrod.
