May 2017 Around Town

Big Benz Beam

The Mercedes-Benz USA team celebrated a milestone on March 30 as the final steel beam was installed at the new headquarters currently under construction in Sandy Springs at 6480 Barfield Road. The new $93 million headquarters building, opening in early 2018, will house as many as 1,000 MBUSA employees. The luxury auto-maker relocated to its new home in Atlanta from New Jersey and is temporarily headquartered in Dunwoody’s Sterling Pointe office center. Dietmar Exler, CEO and president, MBUSA, was on hand to thank the construction crew at the site of the new facility. Construction of the new headquarters began in early September which included a groundbreaking ceremony attended by Governor Nathan Deal, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and Sandy Springs Mayor Rusty Paul. The headquarters, designed by global design firm Gensler which was hired by MBUSA nearly two years ago due to its creative building concepts, will be constructed with an open layout, matching recent trends in corporate campus design.

Love Pets?

Passion for Paws is a local Atlanta non-profit organization that partners with other animal rescues for fundraising, networking and rescue efforts. According to the American Humane Association, each year about 3.7 million animals are euthanized, thousands here in Georgia. While this problem is overwhelming, it can be solved if rescue groups have the volunteer and financial help to get these animals forever homes. Founded in 2008, Passion for Paws has raised over $125,000 for local rescue groups through fun, casual and lively events. Join us for the Southern Gentleman Pet Soiree on June 7 from 6-10 p.m. on the patios of Southern Gentleman and Gypsy Kitchen. Your $25 donation in advance includes admission, one drink, light bites, live music and a silent auction.  All proceeds will benefit PAWS Atlanta and Good Mews rescues. Buy tickets now at
