Unlike their competition, Maid Right doesn’t employ hourly cleaners, but instead enables people to buy a piece of the business and operate their own unit franchise. “Helping people who probably thought they could never own their own business, and watching them begin to make life changing money for their family, is the primary reason we do this business,” says Kissane. With this model, Maid Right will send the same cleaning team to your home every time. Share Their Story
From Tilar J. Mazzeo, the New York Times bestselling author of The Widow Clicquot, comes an extraordinary and gripping account of Irena Sendler—the “female Oskar Schindler”—who took staggering risks to save 2,500 children from death and deportation in Nazi-occupied Poland during World War II. Granted access to the Warsaw ghetto as public health specialist, she made dangerous trips through the city’s sewers, hid children in coffins, snuck them under overcoats at checkpoints, and slipped them through secret passages in abandoned buildings. Irene’s Children is a truly heroic tale of survival, resilience and redemption. Sunday, April 23, 7:30 p.m., MJCCA (5342 Tilly Mill Road, Dunwoody). Member $10; Community $15. Purchase Tickets: Call the MJCCA Box Office at 678.812.4005, or visit AtlantaJCC.org/bookfestival.
The Dunwoody Police Department was awarded the 2017 Car Seat Mini-Grant by the Georgia Department of Public Health, Injury Prevention Program. Through the Mini-Grant, the Dunwoody Police Department and the DeKalb County Fire Rescue Department work together to provide car seats and education to financially eligible families in DeKalb County. This program is funded by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to help ensure Georgia’s children are safe while riding in motor vehicles. Since 2007, the education, car seats and booster seats provided through the Mini Grant prevented serious injury or death and saved more than 300 of Georgia’s children who were involved in crashes. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, car seats reduce fatal injuries by 71 percent among infants and by 54 percent among children ages 1 to 4 years in passenger cars. Car seats offer the best protection for children in the event of a crash, and they are most effective when installed and used correctly. Nearly three out of every four car seats are not used properly, placing children at unnecessary risk. In DeKalb County, the Dunwoody Police Department, along with DeKalb County Fire Rescue Department, educate parents and caregivers on how to properly install and use car seats, offer car seat inspections and provide car seats and booster seats to financially eligible families.
