I admit it.
I got emotionally involved with one of the stories in this month’s Health & Fitness issue. I got too close. I was a nervous mess before the photo shoot, with butterflies doing a number, my head swimming. Athletes. Dedication, finesse, strength, success.
I love them all!
Meet our first ever Lifestyle Publications All-Star Team! These sixteen amazing girls from high schools in our magazines’ readerships represent the best of the best. And, while their athletic accomplishments are nothing short of spectacular, we pause to applaud because of their balance.
Jayda Drake-Howard is a demon on the track. Still, she’s grounded. Her hero? “My mom because she provides for me and gives me great advice on how to overcome things.” Amen to that, Jayda.
Mia Whitney plays softball and basketball for Mount Vernon (where we shot the feature).
In charge of the community engagement at her school, she helps organize their annual Toys for Tots and canned food drives. Mia designed a system in which more than 300 students could choose where and with which non-profit they wished to volunteer with during the school-wide Helping Hands Day event commemorating 9/11. She also has partnered with Pebble Tossers, an organization dedicated to promoting community service, to help improve volunteer opportunities for all the students at her school. That’s what I’m talkin’ about!
Something else is cooking here. Lifestyle Publications is thrilled to announce our first ever BEST OF contest, where you speak up and let the world know all your favorite places to shop, eat and do business in our community. This month, go to our website, click the link and nominate your top spots. Then, in February, you’ll head back to that same site and vote for your all-time preferred businesses that will be among our BEST OF, announced in April. Do you have a go-to coffee shop? A must-see medical provider? A car dealer you return to again and again? Let us know. Head to our website when you’re done reading this juicy issue and have your say!
