November 2016 Around Town

Mex and a Game

Cheeky Chastain in Sandy Springs is now open for lunch, offering a stadium-sized menu of favorites from both sides of the border, pour-your-own brews, margaritas, cocktails and all the sports network connections needed to watch and cheer every game. For a crisp fall lunch, fork into chile lime shrimp salad ($11), tipico salad with grilled chicken ($10), or the house salad ($4) topped with grilled chicken, shrimp or steak (+$4-$5) and house-made dressings like avocado cream, chipotle cream or agave balsamic. The taqueria now opens at 11 a.m. daily and remains open until 12 a.m. daily.

Peace Pole

Marist School recently planted and dedicated a Peace Pole on campus as a permanent reminder of the school’s commitment to nonviolence. The Peace Pole is a hand-crafted monument that displays the message and prayer “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in different languages on each of its four sides. Marist School’s Peace Pole was blessed on September 11 at a Family Mass, which also commemorated those who died on 9/11. The Peace Pole was planted on campus in Alumni Plaza between the Wooldridge Library and Ivy Street Center and was dedicated in a ceremony for students, faculty, and staff on September 15. Tens of thousands of Peace Poles have been erected in 180 countries across the world, all dedicated as monuments to peace. Peace Poles are an internationally recognized symbol of the hopes and dreams of the entire human family, standing vigil in silent prayer for peace on earth.

Clean and Green

Many of the services used in homes today use chemicals that have been shown in studies to harm our health. Children and pets are particularly affected by these chemicals used in our cleaning, pest control and lawns. Many have been shown to be asthmagens, allergens, carcinogens (cause cancer), endocrine disruptors (affect hormones), and neurotoxins (affect the brain).   Green Queen and Hankey Pest Control opt to use no toxic chemicals in the services for your home. They don’t buy into the “a little bit of toxic chemicals is safe” if they are avoidable! They provide safe, effective, high quality services at reasonable prices. Green Queen is truly eco and health friendly company dedicated to providing all the services you need for your home. They are offering 20 percent off to readers who mention Perimeter North Lifestyle.

Backyard Campout

Join Dunwoody Nature Center for a taste of camping in the forest, without going too far from home. At the November 5 family- focused program, you’ll learn some of the camping basics like how to set up and break down tents and how to build and put out a campfire. The educators at DNC will help you plan for the overnight by explaining everything that you need to bring for your adventure. And what campout would be complete without a fire, some s’mores, games, a night hike, and even a camp song or two.

Sears Smith Gives

Homes for Our Troops (HFOT) is a privately funded 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that builds mortgage-free, specially adapted homes nationwide for severely injured Veterans Post – 9/11, to enable them to rebuild their lives. Most of these Veterans have sustained injuries including multiple limb amputations, partial or full paralysis, and/or severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). These homes restore some of the freedom and independence our Veterans sacrificed while defending our country, and enable them to focus on their family, recovery, and rebuilding their lives. Since its inception in 2004, nearly 90 cents of every dollar has gone directly to our program services for Veterans. HFOT builds these homes where the Veteran chooses to live, and continues its relationship with the Veterans after home delivery to assist them with rebuilding their lives. Sears Smith & Associates Landscape Architects proudly supports HFOT and invites you to join the efforts.

Travelfaire Travels

Members of the Dunwoody Perimeter Chamber celebrated the relocation of Travelfaire after 32 years in the same location to 1711 Mount Vernon Road. Attendees enjoyed refreshments, door prizes, and special travel offers. Representatives from major cruise lines and tour companies were also in attendance. Celia Gardner, owner and president of Travelfaire of Dunwoody, has found her travel industry specialty and it’s helped her agency stay afloat during the last few economically down years.“We’ve held on very well,” said Gardner, who credits her staying power to the types of travel arrangements in which she specializes. “Honeymoons, groups and meetings never stopped,” she said. Travelfaire is a member of several industry associations and was selected by the Small Business Commerce Association as 2009 Best Business in the travel agency category. 1711 Mount Vernon Road, 770.396.3299
