The sixth annual Elegant Elf Marketplace returns this year, showcasing 85 carefully selected local and regional artists, craftsmen, gourmet food purveyors, and unique gift vendors in jewelry, handcrafted fashions, fine crafts, home and garden, handbags, toys and more. The upscale two-day “shopping for a cause” fundraiser is presented by the Sandy Springs Society.
Heading up the Sandy Springs Society for the 2016-2017 term is Carol Anne Hendrix. She is joined by a leadership team of four energetic chairpersons: Barb Mutz, Melissa Patterson, Belle Cameron Pierce and Susan Sutterfield. Along with one advisor, Valerie Love, they are working alongside 310 volunteers to present the 2016 show with a new lineup of special entertainment and new attractions this year. This lineup includes student performances from local schools, authors and a fashion show, highlighting the clothing and jewelry of many of the talented vendors. Shoppers will be able to reenergize themselves with a delicious lunch and snacks at the Polar Express Café and also purchase tickets for festive raffle packages.
“The Sandy Springs Society works year round to hand select upscale gift vendors, and we are again at full capacity with an enthusiastic backing from major sponsors and our largest presenting sponsor, Northside Hospital,” says Even Co-chair Susan Butterfield. “Additionally, to showcase our unique community, talent from our Sandy Springs schools, chefs and local experts will take the stage for a full two-day lineup of entertainment.”
All proceeds from The Elegant Elf Marketplace are reinvested in the community through the Sandy Springs Society’s philanthropic grants program that this year contributed to over 25 non-profit organizations. Funds for these programs are solely raised by two major fundraisers per year: The Elegant Elf Marketplace in November and Tossed Out Treasures in March. To date these events have raised over $3.2 million for the grants program.
“We are strictly an all-volunteer organization working to fund our grant program that supports Heritage Sandy Springs and several other non-profits in the community,” says Carol Anne Hendrix, current president of the Sandy Springs Society. “Our Marketplace is the perfect opportunity for people that enjoy shopping and supporting the community. We offer carefully selected unique vendors and a festive atmosphere without the traditional mall chaos, a chance to get a jump on your holiday shopping and delightful entertainment, all while enjoying the warm hospitality of a group of dedicated women. The mission of the Sandy Springs Society is to enrich a broad range of local programs that promote the arts, heritage, education, the environment and social services in the community. We believe deeply in the future of Sandy Springs.”
Carol Anne has been a longstanding member of the Sandy Springs Society which was founded in 1988 by 16 women, and is now the largest philanthropic agency in Sandy Springs dedicated to the unified goal of improving the quality of life for the residents of Sandy Springs.
Established in 2011, The Elegant Elf is a treasured community tradition and continues to captivate shoppers from within and outside of Sandy Springs during the peak gift-buying season. It has largely become a shopping destination event for shoppers seeking upscale, unique gifts for the most difficult on their list.
