Apprenticing in some the finest restaurants in Italy and having served as executive chef in his hometown of Atlanta has proven professionally rewarding for Chef Jamie Adams. But in 2000, at the age of 41, his family’s predisposition for heart disease caught up with him and Adams was, as he refers to it, “The lucky recipient of four coronary artery bypass grafts–Cabbage-CABG–more commonly known as a quadruple bypass.” After recovering from this life-altering surgery, Adams rediscovered cycling, a form of exercise he had been enthusiastic about as a young adult. His passion for cycling only intensified when his wife Kim surprised him with a new bicycle less than a year after his bypass surgery. Since opening il Giallo Osteria & Bar with partner Leonardo Moura in October of 2015, Adams frequently rides his bicycle from his Johns Creek home to the restaurant in Sandy Springs. He logs around 100 miles a week on his bike and spends weekend days cycling with groups of friends to Lake Lanier and riding the gaps in Dahlonega. Recently, Adams completed his third Chef’s Cycle Ride, a fundraiser for No Kid Hungry. This year Adams raised more than $15,000 in effort to end childhood hunger, as he biked 300 miles from Carmel to Santa Barbara. Congrats, Chef!
